Hollow core slabs are prestressed concrete elements that have a constant cross section with longitudinal hollow cores. They are manufactured using high tensile strength steel prestressing strands or wires. Hollow core slabs are widely used in the construction of floors in multi-storey residential, commercial, office, and industrial buildings. Hollow Core Slab mainly involves three stage design checks such as initial stage (When the prestressing strands are released), Installation Stage and Loading (Or Loading) Stage
Standards: European
Features
- Option to specify various national annex according to the European Standard. The program adopts the relevant design factors according to the national annex.
- The type of prestressing strand can be selected from the British, American and European standards with strand class of 1, 2 or 3.
- Tendon release type can be of Gradual or Sudden release. The Installation and Loading time can be chosen from the drop down.
- ECHOLLOWSLAB design module determines the concrete properties at release, installation, and loading depending upon its action time.
- The properties of the cross section such as Area, moment of Inertia can be either user input or program calculated.
- Determines initial losses of prestressing force due to short term relaxation, elastic deformation, time dependent losses due to creep, shrinkage and relaxation.
- Determination of service loads and checks serviceability moments, uses iteration to determine the depth of the stress block, calculates ultimate loads and checks the ultimate moment of resistance.
- Determines shear resistance of both the cracked and uncracked sections and resistance to spalling.
- The calculation also determines the initial camber, deflection after installation and long-term deflections.
- The loads such as dead, live and partition loads with its factors can be specified to check the adequacy of the design.
Design Considerations
- The slab is considered to be single, simply supported span and subjected to only area loads.
- No allowance is considered for Structural concrete toppings.
- The calculation does not cover longitudinal shear check and fire resistance checks.
